Here you can find out what kind of volunteer work may best accommodate your interests and skills. A lot of tasks can even be done from your home.
Find an opportunity
Trail work – trail maintenance encompasses the “on the ground” stewardship performed by volunteers to maintain the trail, it’s structures and it’s natural resources. It includes keeping the footpath clear of natural overgrowth and blowdowns, building and relocating sections of footpath, building and repairing shelters and other structures.
Trail adopting – if you are explicitly interested in trail work for a more sustained way to support the CLDT we got just the opportunity for you. You can “adopt” section of CLDT and become a member of CLDT trail adopters club. Trail adopters “adopt” their own section of trail, pledging to visit and maintain it at least once at year. Usually it’s section near place you live or in area where you frequently practicing your outdoor activities.
Trail angels – people who usually lives near the trail route and volunteer to be available to hikers as logistical support. They can give transportation by car (shuttle) to nearest resupply point if it’s away of trail route, food and drinks on the trail (trail magic) or accommodation (bed, shower, washing the clothes). Trail angels share their kindness for free but hikers mostly offers some symbolic compensation like gas money or so.
Administrative work – data entry, filing, mailings, surveys and more. These projects take place wherever you currently are and are done mostly on your personal computer.
Media / publishing – you can volunteer as a writer, moderator, photographer, videographer, visual designer and more.
